Yes, if you want freehand on the hull you have to use a masking method before you airbrush. Transfers are fine if you can use microsol and so on.

ReplyDeleteAny tips on how you get such clean line highlights? I'm always having to clean up mine, but that seems almost impossible with your airbrushed basecoat.

It takes a steady hand and a quality brush. For larger models it also helps me to break the model down into smaller pieces that I paint separately, as I can better rest my arms and hands for more brush control. And mine needed cleaning up, too, I had to try to mix the appropiate colour and blend it into the airbrushed gradient.
