In my latest video log (link after the jump), I take a look at all the different incarnations of White Dwarf since 1994 and talk about the new issue see how it stacks up to it's predecessors.

If you're unable to watch the video (might be at work or something) but you really want to know what I thought of the NEW issue of White Dwarf? I really like it. I am going to miss Weekly White Dwarf. Visions not so fussed about. But this is thick enough, with enough content to keep me interested for a while. I've had it for 6 days so far and I'm still picking it up for a flick through.

All the great articles that have ever been in the old magazines are there: Battle Reports, Tale of Four Warlords, Gaming Missions, rules for new models, rules for current games, paint splatter, letters and so much more.

I really like the fact they have gone back to crediting the artists, sculptors, painters and writers. It creates a feeling that we are a part of the family. One big hobby family. Not letting us know who was working on what was like talking to us through a wall.

The downside? Well they've gone back to placing adverts at the end of some of the features. This isn't a deal breaker for me but honestly after a couple of months the magazine is going to feel so samey seeing the same adverts for the same boxed games every month. To be fair though they have ditched the 6 pages of store listings. I would rather the adverts of the models and games than columns and columns of addresses.

The overall tone of the magazine is fun and engaging. It's not just paragraph after paragraph of text, theres little pullout pieces of info and light hearted fun. It feels familiar. We don't have to get use to a new format because NEW White Dwarf is the OLD White Dwarf we love and it's back. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it with a servo-harness.

Free model as well can't be bad. 11 out of 10.

P.S. Congratulations to Amy (and myself) for having some models featured in this magazine. Huzzah!  Right, this magazine has really inspired me so I'm off to do some painting.
